Answer
St Michael le Belfrey
At which York church was Guy Fawkes baptized? Guy Fawkes was baptized at St Michael le Belfrey in York.
The baptism took place on 16 April 1570, shortly after Fawkes’s birth in York. St Michael le Belfrey stands at the junction of High Petergate and Minster Yard, directly opposite York Minster, placing Fawkes’s early religious history in one of the city’s most prominent locations.
The present church was built between 1525 and 1537, replacing an earlier church recorded at the site by at least 1294. It is an Anglican church today and is a Grade I listed building. Fawkes was initially raised in the Church of England, but after his father’s death his mother remarried into a recusant Catholic family, and Fawkes later converted to Catholicism.
The usual confusion is between baptism and later Catholic identity: St Michael le Belfrey was the church of his baptism, not a Catholic church associated with his later convictions. Fawkes went on to fight for Catholic Spain in the Low Countries and became a leading participant in the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605.
