At which school did Georgia O'Keeffe teach in Canyon, Texas, from 1916 to 1918?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe taught at West Texas State Normal College in Canyon, Texas, from 1916 to 1918.

The institution later became West Texas A&M University. O'Keeffe joined its faculty after teaching art in South Carolina and Virginia, and her Texas period helped support her while she developed a more independent artistic direction.

While in Texas, she made abstract drawings that attracted the attention of Alfred Stieglitz. He exhibited some of them at his New York gallery, 291, in 1916. That exhibition helped bring O'Keeffe into the professional art world and encouraged her to move to New York in 1918.

The school name can be confusing because the college changed names over time. The historical name used during O'Keeffe's teaching appointment was West Texas State Normal College, not the university's modern name.
