At which Rio 2016 ceremony was Biles the U.S. flag bearer?

The story behind the answer

Simone Biles was the U.S. flag bearer at the Rio 2016 closing ceremony.

Biles was selected to carry the American flag into Maracanã Stadium on August 21, 2016, at the end of the Olympic Games. The honor followed her extraordinary Rio performance: she won four gold medals and one bronze, including individual all-around, vault, floor exercise, and team titles.

She was the first American woman gymnast chosen as a U.S. Olympic closing-ceremony flag bearer. The selection was made by fellow U.S. Olympians, and Biles carried the flag during the parade of athletes that formally concluded the Games.

The mix-up usually comes from confusing the opening and closing ceremonies. Michael Phelps carried the U.S. flag at the Rio opening ceremony. Biles did not carry it during the team final or a medal ceremony; her flag-bearing honor occurred at the closing ceremony.
