At which Persian site was the tomb of Cyrus the Great built?

The story behind the answer

The tomb of Cyrus the Great was built at Pasargadae, his royal capital in the Persian heartland.

The monument is a simple limestone structure raised on a stepped base. Classical authors, especially Arrian and Strabo, described it as Cyrus’s burial place and reported an inscription associated with the tomb, although the original wording and later transmission are debated.

The tomb survived the destruction of many Achaemenid buildings and remains one of the best-known monuments at Pasargadae. It is sometimes incorrectly placed at Persepolis because both sites are major Achaemenid complexes in Fars. Persepolis was founded by Darius I later, whereas Pasargadae was Cyrus’s dynastic center and contains the monument traditionally identified with his burial.
