At which Paralympic Games did badminton make its debut?

The story behind the answer

Badminton made its Paralympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The competition was staged in 2021 because the COVID-19 pandemic postponed the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics by one year. Tokyo 2020 therefore refers to the edition's official name, even though the badminton matches took place in 2021.

The debut included singles and doubles events for athletes competing in sport classes covering different physical impairments. Matches were played at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo. The introduction gave para-badminton its first official Paralympic medal events after years of development through international competitions.

A common mistake is to answer Rio 2016, because badminton was already a regular Olympic sport by then. Para-badminton, however, was not on the Rio Paralympic programme. Paris 2024 was its second Paralympic appearance, not its first.
