At which Oxford college did C.S. Lewis study as an undergraduate?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis studied as an undergraduate at University College, Oxford.

Lewis entered University College in 1917, after receiving a scholarship to study at Oxford. His education was interrupted by military service during the First World War, but he later returned to Oxford and completed his studies.

University College is one of Oxford’s oldest colleges, founded in 1249 according to its traditional history. Lewis later became associated with Magdalen College as a tutor and fellow, which is why readers sometimes confuse the college where he studied with the college where he taught.

After his Oxford years, Lewis became an Oxford academic and spent much of his career teaching English literature there. His later move to Cambridge did not erase his long connection with Oxford.
