At which New York lake did Georgia O'Keeffe spend summers and paint landscapes?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe spent summers and painted landscapes at Lake George in New York.

O'Keeffe visited the Stieglitz family property at Lake George regularly from 1918 through the early 1930s. The rural setting gave her a sustained environment for painting trees, hills, barns, flowers, and seasonal changes.

Lake George works often translate natural forms into simplified shapes and vivid color areas. They show that her art was not limited to flowers or the Southwest, although those subjects later became especially associated with her name.

Her relationship with the place was also tied to Alfred Stieglitz and his family. After Stieglitz’s death in 1946, O'Keeffe increasingly centered her life and work in New Mexico. Lake George therefore belongs especially to the earlier and middle phases of her career.
