At which New York art school did Georgia O'Keeffe study from 1907 to 1908?
Answer
Art Students League
Answer
Art Students League
Georgia O'Keeffe studied at the Art Students League of New York from 1907 to 1908. The school provided flexible training for artists and was an important part of her early professional education.
While there, O'Keeffe studied under William Merritt Chase, a prominent American painter and teacher. She won a scholarship for a still-life painting, an achievement that demonstrated her skill within the academic art system of the period.
Her time at the League followed study at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She later became dissatisfied with conventional methods and moved toward abstraction, eventually developing a highly personal language of simplified shapes and intense color.
The Art Students League should not be confused with the National Academy of Design, where she later served as a student-model and attended classes during part of her New York training. The League was the institution associated with her 1907–1908 study period.
