At which New Mexico ranch did Georgia O'Keeffe live and work after 1949?
Answer
Ghost Ranch
Answer
Ghost Ranch
Georgia O'Keeffe lived and worked at Ghost Ranch after 1949.
Ghost Ranch is a large retreat and education center in northern New Mexico, near Abiquiu. O'Keeffe first visited the area in the 1930s and was drawn to its cliffs, arid colors, open spaces, and distinctive geological formations. In 1949, she moved permanently to New Mexico and divided her time between Ghost Ranch and her home in Abiquiu.
The ranch became closely associated with paintings of desert landscapes, cliffs, bones, and sky. O'Keeffe's approach to the landscape was selective and transformative: she enlarged, simplified, or isolated forms to express their visual power.
Ghost Ranch is not the same place as Abiquiu, although both are central to O'Keeffe's New Mexico story. Her Abiquiu home is also preserved as a historic site, while Ghost Ranch remains known for its dramatic setting and educational programs.
