At which New Mexico property did Georgia O'Keeffe live in a house she bought in 1945?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe bought a house at Abiquiu in 1945 and later made it her principal New Mexico home.

The property was a deteriorated adobe house with a distinctive courtyard wall and door. O'Keeffe was attracted to the architectural forms and the surrounding landscape, and the house eventually became a carefully adapted living and working environment. She had the structure restored and used it as a base for her later life and art.

Abiquiu is a village in northern New Mexico, while Ghost Ranch is a separate nearby property that O'Keeffe also owned and used. The two names are therefore closely connected but do not identify the same residence. Her Abiquiu home is especially recognizable through paintings of its black door and courtyard wall.

The house is now preserved as the Georgia O'Keeffe Home and Studio. It is managed as a historic site and offers an unusually direct view of the domestic spaces and landscapes that informed her work.
