Germany’s Rock am Ring festival is traditionally held at the Nürburgring motor-racing circuit.
Rock am Ring began in 1985 as a major rock festival staged at the Nürburgring in Nürburg, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate. The venue’s racing history gives the event a distinctive setting compared with festivals held in parks, fields, or city centers.
The festival has featured rock, alternative, metal, and other guitar-oriented acts. It is closely associated with Rock im Park, a sister festival that takes place in Nuremberg and commonly shares a substantial portion of its lineup.
The Nürburgring is not the same as Hockenheimring, another famous German racing circuit. That distinction matters because both names are strongly connected with motorsport, while Rock am Ring’s traditional venue is the Nürburgring.
