At which London fortress was Guy Fawkes interrogated after the 1605 Gunpowder Plot?

The story behind the answer

Guy Fawkes was interrogated at the Tower of London after the 1605 Gunpowder Plot.

After his arrest beneath Parliament, Fawkes was taken into custody and questioned about the conspiracy. King James I authorised the use of torture if necessary, and Fawkes was held in the Tower of London, the Crown’s principal fortress and prison in the capital.

His early answers were defiant, but repeated interrogation and torture eventually led him to disclose his real name and identify fellow conspirators. His signature on a later confession is famously weak and uneven, reflecting the physical punishment he had endured.

The Tower was not the place where Fawkes was discovered. He was arrested in a cellar beneath the House of Lords and then taken to the Tower for imprisonment and interrogation. That distinction is often blurred in simplified retellings.
