Bob Marley survived an assassination attempt at 56 Hope Road in Kingston, Jamaica.
The shooting took place on 3 December 1976, two days before the planned Smile Jamaica concert. Marley, his wife Rita, manager Don Taylor and others were wounded when gunmen attacked the house, which also served as a rehearsal and gathering space.
Despite the attack, Marley performed at the concert on 5 December. The incident occurred during a period of intense political violence in Jamaica, when tensions between rival political factions affected public life and cultural events.
56 Hope Road later became closely associated with Marley’s legacy. The property is now the site of the Bob Marley Museum. Accounts sometimes refer generally to his Kingston home, but the specific address connected to the assassination attempt is 56 Hope Road.
