At which hospital in Miami did Bob Marley die in 1981?

The story behind the answer

Bob Marley died at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami on 11 May 1981. He was 36 years old.

Marley had been diagnosed with acral lentiginous melanoma, a form of skin cancer, after a dark spot was found beneath a toenail. Although doctors recommended amputation, he declined because of his religious beliefs and instead underwent less extensive surgery.

The cancer later spread, and Marley became ill while traveling back from Europe to Jamaica. He received emergency treatment in Miami, where his condition deteriorated. He was buried in Jamaica after a state funeral on 21 May 1981.

Cedars of Lebanon Hospital was a major Miami medical institution. It later merged with Mount Sinai Hospital, so modern references can connect Marley’s final treatment with Miami’s Mount Sinai medical history.
