Dubai’s globally famous New Year’s Eve fireworks display has been staged at the Burj Khalifa.
The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Downtown Dubai and has been the centerpiece of major New Year celebrations involving fireworks, LED displays, and large public gatherings. Its great height makes it visible across much of the city, while synchronized lighting turns the building itself into part of the show.
The tower opened in 2010 and remains the world’s tallest building, reaching 828 metres including its antenna. Its New Year presentation has helped establish Dubai as a major destination for large-scale holiday spectacles. Crowds also gather around the nearby Dubai Fountain and Dubai Mall.
The Burj Al Arab is another famous Dubai landmark and has hosted its own celebratory displays, which can cause confusion. It is a sail-shaped luxury hotel, whereas the Burj Khalifa is the needle-like skyscraper in Downtown Dubai traditionally associated with the city’s signature countdown.
