At which building was the United States Declaration of Independence signed?

The story behind the answer

The United States Declaration of Independence was signed at the Pennsylvania State House.

The building stood in Philadelphia and was later renamed Independence Hall. It served as the meeting place of the Second Continental Congress, the body that adopted the Declaration and organized the revolutionary government.

Most delegates signed the engrossed parchment on August 2, 1776, although the history of the signatures is more complicated than the familiar image of everyone signing together on July 4. Some delegates signed later, and historians have examined the documentary record to reconstruct the process.

The building also became central to the framing of the United States Constitution in 1787. Because of that double association, Independence Hall is one of the most recognizable sites connected with both independence and the nation’s constitutional founding.
