Mike D’Antoni was an assistant coach for the gold-medal U.S. team at the 2012 London Olympics.
D’Antoni joined the United States men’s national team staff for the London Games. The United States won the Olympic tournament and defeated Spain in the gold-medal game, continuing its run of dominance in international men’s basketball.
The role was part of D’Antoni’s broader coaching career, which included professional work in Italy and NBA head-coaching positions with the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Houston Rockets. His offensive ideas later became closely associated with pace, spacing, and high-volume three-point shooting.
London is the correct Olympic host city for 2012. Beijing hosted the 2008 Games, Rio de Janeiro hosted the 2016 Games, and Tokyo hosted the 2020 Games, so those cities belong to different Olympic cycles.
