Georgia O'Keeffe lived and painted at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico.
Ghost Ranch is a scenic area near Abiquiú known for dramatic red and yellow cliffs, mesas, and open desert landscapes. O'Keeffe first visited the region in 1934 and later acquired a house there, using the landscape as a major source for paintings and drawings.
Her Ghost Ranch subjects included cliffs, roads, bones, trees, and distant formations. She often returned to the same views, simplifying their shapes and intensifying their colors rather than treating them as conventional topographical records.
Ghost Ranch and the Abiquiú house are related but distinct locations. O'Keeffe used both, and the names can be confused because they lie in the same broad northern New Mexico region and both played important roles in her mature career.
