At UFC 193, Holly Holm defeated Ronda Rousey to win the UFC women’s bantamweight title.
The championship fight took place on November 15, 2015, at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium in Australia. Holm, a former professional boxing world champion, used precise counterstriking, lateral movement, and kicking to frustrate Rousey’s aggressive grappling style.
Holm stopped Rousey at 0:59 of the second round with a head kick followed by punches. The victory ended Rousey’s unbeaten professional MMA record and her reign as the UFC women’s bantamweight champion, which had begun in 2012.
The result is sometimes confused with Rousey’s later loss to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207. Nunes defeated Rousey in 2016, but Holm was the fighter who first took the UFC title from her. Holm’s win at UFC 193 was also one of the most significant upsets in UFC history.
