At the 63rd Grammy Awards, Taylor Swift performed “Cardigan” immediately before “august.”
Swift performed both songs in a medley with “willow” on March 14, 2021. She began with “Cardigan,” then moved to “august” while playing guitar inside a cottage-like stage setting, and finished with “willow.”
The sequence mirrored the connection between Folklore and Evermore. “Cardigan” and “august” are both from Folklore, while “willow” comes from Evermore, the companion album released later in 2020.
The performance also reunited Swift with Folklore producers Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner. It was the first time the three performed together. The medley is sometimes remembered simply as a Folklore performance, but its final song came from Evermore, making the full set a bridge between the two surprise albums.
