“willow” closed Taylor Swift’s 63rd Grammy Awards medley featuring “august.”
Swift performed the medley on March 14, 2021, combining “cardigan,” “august,” and “willow.” She began with “cardigan” on top of a cottage, moved inside the cottage for “august,” and then performed “willow” outside with collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner.
“willow” comes from Evermore, Swift’s ninth studio album, while the other two songs come from Folklore. The performance therefore connected Swift’s two surprise albums from 2020, which were created close together and share a reflective, story-driven atmosphere.
The order matters: “cardigan” opened the performance, “august” occupied the middle, and “willow” concluded it. A common mix-up is answering “betty,” because it is the third song in the fictional Folklore love triangle, but it was not part of this Grammy medley.
