At the 2000 Grammy Awards, Versace designed Jennifer Lopez’s famous green jungle-print dress.
The plunging, sheer silk chiffon dress featured a tropical leaf pattern and became one of the most discussed red-carpet looks in modern fashion history. Lopez wore it while presenting at the ceremony in Los Angeles, and photographs of the outfit circulated widely after the event.
The dress is often called the “Jungle Dress,” although it is also commonly described as the “Green Versace dress.” A frequent mix-up is crediting the look to Lopez’s stylist alone; the garment itself was created by the Italian fashion house Versace. The outfit also became part of internet history because public interest in images of it helped inspire Google Images.
Versace later revisited the design in a 2019 collection, with Lopez wearing a new version during Milan Fashion Week. The original remains a landmark example of celebrity fashion influencing both popular culture and technology.
