At the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, which cyclist won the men's individual pursuit gold medal?

The story behind the answer

Chris Boardman won the men’s individual pursuit gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Boardman defeated Germany’s Jens Lehmann in the final at the Velòdrom d’Horta. His victory made him Britain’s first Olympic cycling champion since 1920 and established him as one of the leading pursuit riders of his generation.

The individual pursuit is a timed track-cycling event in which two riders start on opposite sides of the velodrome and race over a set distance. Although riders appear to compete directly, the fastest time determines the winner; catching the opponent also ends the race.

Boardman later became famous for setting the UCI Hour Record in 1993 and for winning stages of the Tour de France. Bradley Wiggins, another British pursuit specialist, won Olympic pursuit gold much later, at the 2004 Athens Games.
