ASML, a major high-market-cap semiconductor-equipment company, is headquartered in Veldhoven, Netherlands.
ASML was founded in 1984 as a joint venture between Philips and ASM International. Its headquarters and main campus are in Veldhoven, a municipality in the province of North Brabant near Eindhoven. The company is legally Dutch and trades publicly on Euronext Amsterdam and Nasdaq.
ASML does not primarily manufacture computer processors or memory chips. Instead, it designs and builds lithography systems that chipmakers use to print extremely small patterns onto silicon wafers. Its extreme ultraviolet, or EUV, systems are used for some of the most advanced semiconductor production processes.
Eindhoven is a common wrong answer because Veldhoven is part of the Eindhoven metropolitan area and lies immediately west of the city. Amsterdam is the Netherlands' capital and the location of ASML's main stock-market listing, but not its corporate headquarters.
