Apple, one of the world's most valuable companies by market cap, unveiled which product on January 9, 2007?

The story behind the answer

Apple unveiled the first iPhone on January 9, 2007, at the Macworld Conference & Expo in San Francisco.

Steve Jobs presented the device as a combination of a widescreen iPod, a mobile phone, and an internet communicator. Unlike most smartphones then, it used a multitouch screen instead of a physical keyboard or stylus. Apple released it in the United States on June 29, 2007.

The original iPhone supported cellular calls, text messaging, visual voicemail, web browsing, email, and music playback. It did not initially include the App Store; Apple added third-party applications through iPhone OS 2.0 in 2008.

The iPhone became a major part of Apple’s business, although Apple is also a significant provider of computers, tablets, services, and wearable devices. The first model is sometimes confused with later iPhone generations, but the 2007 launch specifically refers to the first-generation device.
