Apple became the first public company to reach a $3 trillion market capitalization in 2022.
The milestone occurred briefly on January 3, 2022, during trading on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Apple’s share price reached about $182.86, giving the company a market value of roughly $3 trillion based on its outstanding shares.
Market capitalization is calculated by multiplying a company’s share price by the number of shares outstanding. It can therefore rise or fall during a trading session, and Apple’s $3 trillion valuation was not a permanent price level that day.
Apple had previously become the first U.S. company to reach $1 trillion in market value in 2018 and $2 trillion in 2020. Its products, services business, large cash-generating operations, and extensive global customer base helped make it a recurring market-cap leader.
