Apple released the first iPhone in 2007.
Steve Jobs unveiled the original iPhone on January 9, 2007, at the Macworld conference in San Francisco. Apple began selling it in the United States on June 29, 2007. The device combined a mobile phone, an iPod, and an internet communicator in one touchscreen product.
The original model used a 3.5-inch display and was sold with either 4 GB or 8 GB of storage. It initially ran a version of Apple's mobile operating system that was later called iPhone OS, before the name iOS became standard.
The launch transformed Apple's business and the wider smartphone industry. A common mix-up is assuming the first iPhone included the App Store; that service arrived in 2008 with iPhone OS 2.0. The original phone also lacked features later considered standard, including copy and paste and third-party applications.
