Among the world's richest companies by market cap, Qualcomm makes the Snapdragon processor family.
Snapdragon is a family of system-on-chip products developed and marketed by Qualcomm. Snapdragon chips combine components such as a central processor, graphics processor, modem, and other functions for mobile and connected devices. They have been used in smartphones, tablets, laptops, vehicles, and embedded systems.
Qualcomm was founded in 1985 by Irwin Jacobs and several colleagues. The company became especially influential in wireless communications through its work on CDMA technology and its extensive patent licensing business. Its chip business and licensing business are distinct but connected parts of the company.
Snapdragon is a product brand, not a separate public company. Qualcomm's stock-market value reflects the entire corporation, including semiconductor products, licensing operations, research, and other activities. The word Snapdragon should therefore not be used as the answer to a question asking for the company.
