According to the Old Testament, Abraham’s wife was named Sarah.
Sarah first appears as Sarai in Genesis. She travels with Abram from Mesopotamia into Canaan and later receives the name Sarah as part of the covenant narrative. The text presents her as the mother of Isaac, the son born to Abraham and Sarah in their old age.
Her story includes the promise that Abraham’s descendants would become a great nation. Sarah initially doubts that she will bear a child because of her age, but Genesis later describes Isaac’s birth as the fulfillment of the promise.
Sarah is often confused with Rebekah, Rachel, or Leah because all are important women in the patriarchal narratives. Rebekah is Isaac’s wife, while Rachel and Leah are wives of Jacob, Sarah’s grandson. These relationships connect the major family lines in Genesis.
