According to the Gospel of Matthew, on which mountain did Jesus deliver the Sermon on the Mount?
Answer
A mountain in Galilee
Answer
A mountain in Galilee
According to the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount on a mountain in Galilee.
Matthew does not give the mountain a personal name. Instead, the account says that Jesus went up onto a mountain, sat down, and began teaching his disciples, while crowds listened. The sermon includes the Beatitudes, the Lord’s Prayer, teachings about love of enemies, and the Golden Rule.
This account is often compared with Luke’s Sermon on the Plain. Matthew presents Jesus teaching from a mountain, a setting that can recall Moses receiving and teaching divine law. The location is therefore important symbolically, but the Gospel does not identify a precise peak.
A common mix-up is naming the Mount of Olives or another famous biblical mountain. Those locations are associated with other episodes in Jesus’ life, not with a specifically named site for Matthew’s sermon.
