According to the Book of Genesis, who built Noah’s Ark?

The story behind the answer

According to the Book of Genesis, Noah built Noah’s Ark.

Genesis presents Noah as a righteous man chosen by God to survive a catastrophic flood. God instructs him to construct a large vessel from gopher wood, seal it with pitch, and bring aboard his family and representatives of the animals. Noah’s role as builder is central to the ark story in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions, although details differ among those traditions.

The Bible does not identify gopher wood with a confirmed modern tree species, and the text does not describe Noah as a professional shipbuilder. Later traditions and artistic depictions have supplied many extra details, including specific designs and tools. The story also says that Noah’s wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives entered the ark with him, but Noah remains the named builder and leader of the project.
