According to the Bible, Shem was the father of Arphaxad. Genesis 11:10 identifies Arphaxad as a son born to Shem two years after the Flood, when Shem was 100 years old.
Shem was one of Noah’s three sons, alongside Ham and Japheth. In Genesis, Arphaxad appears in the family line that leads through Shelah, Eber, and eventually Abraham. This genealogy is important because it connects Noah’s post-Flood family to the ancestors of the Israelites.
The name may appear as “Arphaxad,” “Arpachshad,” or “Arphacsad,” depending on the Bible translation. These are spelling differences for the same biblical figure, not different people. Another common mix-up is confusing Arphaxad with Eber: Eber was a later descendant, and the name “Hebrew” is traditionally linked with him.
