According to Islamic tradition, on which date of Ramadan did the Battle of Badr take place?

The story behind the answer

According to Islamic tradition, the Battle of Badr took place on 17 Ramadan. The battle was fought in 624 CE between the early Muslim community led by Muhammad and the Quraysh of Mecca near the wells of Badr, southwest of Medina.

Badr is widely remembered as the first major military victory of the Muslims. Islamic historical sources describe the Muslim force as numbering about 313 men, while the Quraysh force was considerably larger. The outcome strengthened the position of the Muslim community in Medina.

The date is given in the Islamic lunar calendar, so its corresponding Gregorian date changes each year. Badr should not be confused with the Battle of Uhud, which occurred near Medina in 625 CE and is traditionally dated to 7 Shawwal.
