According to Genesis, Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dreams in Egypt.
Pharaoh dreamed of seven healthy cows being swallowed by seven thin cows, followed by seven full ears of grain being consumed by seven withered ears. Joseph explained that the dreams foretold seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine.
Joseph also advised Pharaoh to store grain during the prosperous years. Impressed by this interpretation and practical plan, Pharaoh appointed Joseph overseer of Egypt’s food supply.
Daniel is another biblical figure famous for interpreting royal dreams, but his stories belong to a later setting in Babylon. Joseph’s dream interpretation occurs in Genesis, after his brothers had sold him into slavery and he had risen to authority in Egypt.
