According to Genesis, where was Noah’s ark placed after it came to rest?
Answer
The mountains of Ararat
Answer
The mountains of Ararat
According to Genesis, Noah’s ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
Genesis 8:4 uses the plural phrase “mountains of Ararat,” rather than naming one particular summit. Ararat was associated with the ancient kingdom or region of Urartu, generally located around parts of modern eastern Turkey, Armenia, and neighboring areas. The biblical wording therefore does not identify Mount Ararat itself as the confirmed landing place.
Later traditions and modern searches often focus on Mount Ararat, the highest mountain in Turkey, but that identification is not proven by Genesis. Reports of alleged ark discoveries have repeatedly lacked independently verified archaeological evidence.
The passage says the ark rested on the mountains on the seventeenth day of the seventh month. It then describes the waters receding, the mountain tops becoming visible, and Noah eventually leaving the vessel after receiving God’s instruction.
