According to Genesis, how old was Noah when the Flood came to Noah’s Ark?

The story behind the answer

According to Genesis, Noah was 600 years old when the Flood came to Noah’s Ark.

Genesis 7:6 gives Noah’s age when the Flood began. Earlier genealogical passages identify Noah as the son of Lamech and place his birth within the primeval history that leads to the Flood narrative. Genesis later says Noah lived for 950 years, so his age at the Flood was not his lifespan.

The number is sometimes confused with 500, because Genesis 5:32 says Noah was 500 years old when he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. It is also confused with 950, his total age at death. These are separate chronological details.

The biblical account uses Noah’s age as a clear time marker, but it does not provide a modern calendar date for the Flood. The age is therefore best understood as the number stated within Genesis’s genealogy and narrative chronology.
