According to Exodus 26, ten curtains formed the inner covering of the Tabernacle.
The curtains were made of fine twisted linen and blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, with cherubim worked into them. Exodus gives each curtain a length of twenty-eight cubits and a width of four cubits. They were joined into two sets of five by loops and gold clasps.
This inner textile layer was followed by additional coverings, including curtains of goats' hair and outer protective layers. That is why descriptions of the Tabernacle can contain several different curtain totals. The ten curtains refer specifically to the innermost woven covering.
The Tabernacle was the portable sanctuary used by the Israelites during their wilderness journey. Its detailed construction instructions occupy major sections of Exodus and distinguish the sacred inner space from the surrounding courtyard.
