According to Exodus 25, how many cubits long was the Ark of the Covenant?

According to Exodus 25, the Ark of the Covenant was two and a half cubits long.

The same passage gives the Ark’s width and height as one and a half cubits each. It was to be made of acacia wood and overlaid with pure gold inside and outside. Gold rings and poles were provided so it could be carried without the carriers touching the Ark itself.

The Ark’s lid, called the mercy seat in many English translations, had two cherubim of gold. The instructions place the Ark inside the Most Holy Place of the Tabernacle and associate it with the covenant tablets.

The cubit was an ancient unit whose exact length varied. Estimates commonly place it around 45 centimeters, but Exodus gives the measurement in cubits rather than modern units. The answer is therefore the biblical dimension, not a modern conversion.
