According to Exodus 16, which wilderness did the Israelites enter after leaving Elim?
Answer
The wilderness of Sin
Answer
The wilderness of Sin
According to Exodus 16, the Israelites entered the wilderness of Sin after leaving Elim.
The journey is described as taking place in the second month after the Israelites left Egypt. From Elim, they travelled into the wilderness of Sin, which lay between Elim and Sinai. There the whole community complained about food, saying that life in Egypt had seemed more secure because they had eaten bread and meat.
God responded by announcing quail in the evening and bread from heaven in the morning. This is the setting for the first description of manna in Exodus and for the instructions about gathering it on particular days.
The name can cause confusion because several wilderness regions in the Bible have similar names. The wilderness of Sin is not the wilderness of Zin, which appears in later journey accounts, and it is not the wilderness of Shur mentioned earlier after the sea crossing. In Exodus 16, the location is specifically the wilderness of Sin.
