According to Deuteronomy 34, from which mountain did Moses view the Promised Land?

The story behind the answer

According to Deuteronomy 34, Moses viewed the Promised Land from Mount Nebo.

The closing chapter of Deuteronomy says that Moses went up Mount Nebo, to the summit of Pisgah, opposite Jericho. From there, God showed him the land promised to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses saw the territory but did not enter it.

Mount Nebo is traditionally associated with a ridge in present-day Jordan, east of the Jordan River and northeast of the Dead Sea. Its summit provides views toward the Jordan Valley and the hills of the land described in the biblical account.

Mount Nebo is not the same mountain as Mount Sinai, where the Israelites received the covenant and law earlier in the story. Moses’s ascent of Nebo occurs near the end of his life, after the wilderness years and shortly before his death. Deuteronomy says he died there in Moab.
