According to badminton laws, the permitted mesh size of a badminton net is 15–20 millimetres.
The net must be made from a fine, dark-coloured, even mesh. The specified mesh range prevents the openings from being so large that the shuttle could pass through easily or so small that the net becomes unnecessarily dense and heavy.
The mesh requirement is only one part of the net specification. The net is 760 millimetres deep and stretches across the full width of the court. Its top edge is finished with white tape, and the net is supported by posts positioned on the doubles sidelines.
Mesh size should not be confused with net height. The top of the net is 1.524 metres high at the centre and 1.55 metres high at the posts. These measurements govern different parts of the equipment.
