With whom did James Cameron co-found Lightstorm Entertainment?

James Cameron co-founded Lightstorm Entertainment with producer Lawrence Kasanoff.

The company was established in 1990 as Cameron’s production banner. Kasanoff had already built experience in genre filmmaking through Lightning Pictures, a Vestron Pictures subsidiary. Their partnership helped launch a company that could develop and produce Cameron’s ambitious projects outside the usual studio structure.

Lightstorm’s early film successes included Terminator 2: Judgment Day, released in 1991, and True Lies in 1994. Titanic followed in 1997, becoming one of the most commercially successful films ever made. Cameron later used Lightstorm as the production base for the Avatar films and other effects-heavy projects.

A common mix-up is Jon Landau, who became one of Cameron’s most important producing partners but did not co-found Lightstorm. Cameron met Landau during the production of True Lies, and Landau later joined the company, eventually producing Titanic and the Avatar films. Lightstorm’s distinctive logo depicts a bowman using a lightning bolt as an arrow.
