Winchell's Donut House was founded in which California city?

The story behind the answer

Winchell’s Donut House was founded in Temple City, California. Verne Winchell opened the first shop there in 1948, establishing the chain that would become one of the best-known doughnut brands in the western United States.

The company’s founding date is commonly given as October 8, 1948. Winchell’s later expanded substantially, reaching hundreds of locations and building a strong presence in California and other Western states.

A frequent mix-up is the chain’s later headquarters and ownership. Winchell’s was headquartered in Santa Ana when Yum-Yum Donut Shops purchased it in 2004, and its operations later became associated with the City of Industry. Those later locations do not change the founding city: the original Winchell’s business began in Temple City.
