Whose big dance hit was "Headhunter"?

“Headhunter” was the big dance hit by Belgian electronic body music group Front 242. Released in 1988, it became the band’s signature song and one of the most recognizable tracks in industrial dance music.

The song appeared on Front 242’s album Front by Front and was issued in several versions, including “Headhunter V1.0.” Its pounding electronic rhythm, clipped vocals, and stark, mechanical production helped bring the group’s underground EBM sound to wider club audiences. In the United States, it reached No. 13 on the Billboard Dance Club Play chart.

The striking black-and-white music video was directed by Dutch filmmaker and photographer Anton Corbijn, whose visual style also became closely associated with acts such as Depeche Mode. A frequently repeated bit of trivia is that Corbijn initially misunderstood the title as “Egg Hunter,” an idea reflected in the video’s imagery.

“Headhunter” is sometimes loosely grouped with new wave, synth-pop, or industrial music, but Front 242 are most specifically identified with EBM. The song has also received numerous remixes and remains a staple of alternative and industrial dance floors.
