Who wrote 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz'?

The story behind the answer

The author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is L. Frank Baum.

Published in 1900, the children's fantasy novel follows Dorothy, her dog Toto, and their journey through the magical Land of Oz after a cyclone carries them away from Kansas. Baum created the story with illustrator W. W. Denslow, whose distinctive artwork helped define the book's early visual identity.

The book was issued by the George M. Hill Company and became an immediate success. Its popularity led Baum to write thirteen official sequels, beginning with The Marvelous Land of Oz in 1904. The 1902 stage musical and the famous 1939 film are commonly called The Wizard of Oz, but that is not the original book's full title.

Baum was an American author born Lyman Frank Baum. He wrote many other books and used several pseudonyms, but L. Frank Baum is the canonical name associated with Oz.
