Who wrote 'The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher'?
Answer
Beatrix Potter
Answer
Beatrix Potter
The author of The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher is Beatrix Potter.
Potter wrote and illustrated the picture book, which Frederick Warne & Co. published in July 1906. Its main character is a frog who lives in a “slippy-sloppy” house beside a pond and sets out in a lily-pad boat to catch fish for dinner. His fishing trip ends badly when a large trout nearly swallows him.
The story grew from a letter Potter wrote to a child in 1893 while she was staying near the River Tay in Scotland. When she later developed it into a book, she moved the setting to the English Lake District, a region she loved. The tale also reflects her familiarity with fishing trips taken by her father and his friends.
Potter is often associated most strongly with Peter Rabbit, but she created many other animal characters, including Jemima Puddle-Duck, Tom Kitten, and Squirrel Nutkin. Kenneth Grahame wrote The Wind in the Willows, Lewis Carroll wrote Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, and A. A. Milne created Winnie-the-Pooh.
