Who wrote the Sherlock episode The Blind Banker?

Stephen Thompson wrote the Sherlock episode “The Blind Banker.” It is the second episode of the BBC series and first aired on 1 August 2010.

The story follows Sherlock Holmes and John Watson as they investigate coded messages, murders, and an antiquities-smuggling ring connected to China. Thompson’s script draws loosely on Arthur Conan Doyle’s “The Adventure of the Dancing Men,” another Holmes story built around mysterious symbols.

The episode is sometimes confused with other early Sherlock credits. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss created the television series, but neither wrote this episode. Euros Lyn directed it, while Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman played Sherlock and John.

“The Blind Banker” also helped establish the show’s modern approach to Holmesian clues: ancient numerical symbols become a book cipher, and a jade hairpin supplies the hidden treasure at the centre of the case.
