Who wrote the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga?

The story behind the answer

Kosaku Anakubo wrote the Pokémon Pocket Monsters manga.

Pokémon Pocket Monsters is one of the earliest Pokémon manga series from Japan. Anakubo both wrote and illustrated the series, which began in CoroCoro Comic in November 1996, the same year the original Pokémon games launched.

The manga follows Red and his rival Green as they pursue the goal of completing the Pokédex. Its tone and characterization differ from the better-known Pokémon Adventures manga. In particular, the Pokémon Pocket Monsters version features a highly comic style and gives Clefairy a prominent, mischievous role.

The series is also easy to confuse with Pokémon Adventures, written by Hidenori Kusaka and illustrated by Mato during its early run. Pokémon Pocket Monsters remained associated with Anakubo and later continued through region-themed sequel series based on newer Pokémon games.
