Who wrote the Doctor Who episode The Pandorica Opens?

The story behind the answer

Steven Moffat wrote the Doctor Who episode The Pandorica Opens.

The episode was broadcast in 2010 as the first half of the fifth series finale, during Matt Smith’s first season as the Eleventh Doctor. Moffat was the series’ lead writer and executive producer at the time, and the story brings together plot elements introduced across that season, including the mysterious cracks in time and the recurring question of what is happening to the universe.

Moffat’s script uses the name “Pandorica” as an allusion to Pandora’s box, but the object works differently from the mythological container. It is presented as a supposedly impenetrable prison, and the central twist is that the Doctor—not an unknown evil—is the intended prisoner. The episode ends on a cliffhanger that continues in “The Big Bang.”

Russell T Davies is a common mix-up because he preceded Moffat as Doctor Who showrunner. Davies wrote the revived series from 2005 through 2009, while Moffat took over with the 2010 series.
