Who wrote "The Da Vinci Code"?

The story behind the answer

Dan Brown wrote “The Da Vinci Code,” a 2003 mystery thriller featuring symbologist Robert Langdon.

The novel begins after a murder in Paris’s Louvre Museum draws Langdon and cryptologist Sophie Neveu into a trail of coded clues, secret societies, religious symbolism, and disputed historical claims. Its fast-paced mixture of puzzles and conspiracy helped make it a worldwide publishing phenomenon.

The story’s claims about Jesus, Mary Magdalene, the Holy Grail, and the Priory of Sion are presented as thriller fiction, not established history. Scholars and religious institutions have criticized or rejected many of the book’s historical assertions, which is an important distinction often lost when the novel is discussed as fact.

The Da Vinci Code is the second Robert Langdon novel, following Angels & Demons, although it became the character’s best-known adventure. It was adapted into a 2006 film starring Tom Hanks as Langdon.
